In short

A private sightseeing tour in Seville of four hours, guided in English or Norwegian by Gunvor Guttormsen, the only officially licensed Norwegian guide in Seville and Andalucía. She collects you at your hotel and shows you the three places that matter most: Santa Cruz, the cathedral with the Giralda tower, and the Alcázar. Along the way you get your bearings in the city and the history behind what you are looking at — from the Romans and the Moors to the voyages to the Americas. Guiding costs 245 € for the whole party. Entrance tickets for the Alcázar and the cathedral are not included, but she is happy to help book them. The tour is flexible and shaped around what you want to see on your first day. It is for private parties of up to 12 people and runs every day. For groups over 8, headsets are required during guiding and cost 2.50 € per person. It finishes somewhere central, and you leave with her recommendations for the rest of your stay.

how I always start

About the tour

Seville is a city you have to get inside before you can use it. The streets in the centre follow a Moorish pattern rather than a grid, and the map helps less than you would think. That is why I always start new guests here: one morning, and the rest of your stay gets easier.

We walk through Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter, and on to the cathedral and the Alcázar. Along the way I explain how the city became what it is: the Romans who laid it out, the Moors who ruled for five hundred years, the reconquest in 1248, and the two centuries when all the gold from the Americas came through here and made Seville the richest city in Europe.

The tour is flexible. The order above is what I recommend for a first day, but tell me what you would like to see and I will plan the day around it. If you have been here before, or there is something particular you are curious about, we do that instead. I walk slowly and set the pace by you — one of the reasons I only take private parties.

What you take away

01 The cathedral and the Giralda tower — the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, built over the city's main mosque.
02 The Alcázar, the Moorish palace that is still the royal family's residence when they are in Seville.
03 Santa Cruz, the old Jewish quarter, with hidden courtyards and lanes so narrow you can touch both walls.
04 A grasp of the city: where you are, what lies where, and how to find your way for the rest of your stay.
05 A flexible format: tell me what you would like to see and I will plan the day around it.
06 My recommendations at the end — where to eat, what to see tomorrow, and what you can safely skip.

How the day goes

Start
I collect you at your hotel
We begin where you are staying, so you do not have to navigate a city you do not know yet. On the way you get your first bearings: where the river runs, where the centre lies, how the streets connect.
Part 1
Santa Cruz
The old Jewish quarter right beside the cathedral. Whitewashed walls, orange trees and courtyards behind the gates. Here I explain why the quarter looks the way it does, and what happened to the people who lived in it.
Part 2
The cathedral and the Giralda
The largest Gothic cathedral in the world, raised over the mosque that stood here before. The Giralda was its minaret, and you can still see it in the brickwork. Inside stands Columbus' tomb. We go in if you have a ticket; otherwise I tell the story from outside.
Part 3
The Alcázar
The palace the Moors began and Christian kings kept building for seven hundred years. Tilework, horseshoe arches, water channels and gardens. It is still in use: the royal family stays here when they are in the city.
Finish
Somewhere central that suits you
We finish at a point that fits your plans for the rest of the day. That is when you get my recommendations — where to eat tonight, what is worth your time tomorrow, and what you can leave out.

Frequently asked questions

Four hours. We walk at an easy pace, with breaks, and I adjust the rhythm to you.

Guiding costs 245 € for the whole party, whatever your group size. Entrance tickets to the monuments are extra, and I am happy to help book them. For groups over 8 people, headsets are required during guiding and cost 2.50 € per person.

No, they are extra. I am happy to help book the tickets for the Alcázar and the cathedral — tell me when you book the tour and we will sort it together.

Because a ticket costs the same whoever buys it. The Alcázar and the cathedral sell at a fixed price on their own websites, and many resellers add a mark-up. This way you avoid that — and I am happy to help with the booking. Demand is high, so we cannot guarantee tickets are available. Book well ahead online.

Yes. Both the Alcázar and the cathedral require a name and passport or ID card number on each ticket, and the same document must be shown at the entrance. Bring the document itself, not a copy — without it you will not be let in.

English or Norwegian, as you prefer. I am the only officially licensed Norwegian guide in Seville and Andalucía.

I collect you at your hotel. That way you do not have to find your way around a city you do not know yet.

Up to 12 in one group. The tour is set up for private parties — you are never joined with strangers. For groups over 8, headsets are required during guiding.

Yes. The tour is flexible, and the plan above is only what I recommend for a first day. Tell me what you would like to see, or what you are curious about, and I will shape the day around it.

No. Some want to see them from within, others would rather spend the time out in the city. Tell me what you prefer and I will plan the day around it.

Yes. Four hours is long for the youngest, but we can shorten it or add more breaks. Tell me their ages and I will adapt.

It is a city requirement for groups over 8. It also makes the tour better: you hear me clearly without me raising my voice, and we do not disturb others inside the monuments. 2.50 € per person.

A couple of weeks is ideal, especially in spring and autumn high season. Ask anyway at short notice — it often works out.

Every day. Note that the cathedral has limited opening hours on Sundays because of mass.

We finish somewhere central that suits your plans, and you get my recommendations for the rest of your stay — where to eat, what to see tomorrow, and what you can safely skip.
